Honoring a Legacy

At American Beauty, we don’t just grow sod; we carry forward a 70-year tradition of dedication and local pride. The story began in 1956 when Angelo "Abe" Parente planted his very first field in Belleville using his U.S. Army jump pay. Seeing a unique opportunity in the rich peat earth of Stockbridge, Abe expanded the business here in 1964.

For over six decades, Abe and his wife, Ruth Anne, operated the farm as a true partnership. Abe was known for his tireless work ethic, while Ruth Anne managed the office and built lasting relationships with the community. The name "American Beauty Turf Nurseries" was even Ruth Anne’s clever idea to ensure they appeared first in the local Yellow Pages.

Abe, who passed away in 2024, took immense pride in the quality of his work and was most rewarded by the satisfaction of knowing he provided a superior product. Today, we are honored to walk in their footsteps, maintaining the same commitment to excellence and the "Stockbridge-strong" spirit that the Parentes championed for nearly 70 years.

The Founders

Angelo "Abe" & Ruth Anne Parente

Abe and Ruth Anne were the heartbeat of American Beauty Turf for over 60 years. Abe, a U.S. Army veteran, founded the farm in 1956 using his military jump pay to plant the very first fields. While Abe managed the care of the soil and precision of the harvest, Ruth Anne was the pillar of the front office, managing operations and building deep roots within the community. Together, they built a reputation for providing a premium product without compromise, fueled by a shared work ethic that saw them on the farm five and a half days a week well into their eighties.

The Next Generation

Zakary & Shelby

As the new stewards of American Beauty, we are honored to carry forward the Parente legacy of excellence. Like the founders before us, we operate as a dedicated team, combining a deep respect for Michigan’s natural resources with a commitment to modern, sustainable land management. Zakary, an engineer, oversees the day-to-day farm operations and equipment, ensuring every yard of Kentucky Bluegrass is grown to the highest standard. Shelby, a licensed attorney and conservation professional, manages the business and community outreach. Together, we are dedicated to providing the same "Stockbridge-strong" service and quality that has defined this farm since 1956.
